Nollywood star actress and now director, Omoni Oboli, is rocking the big stage as her debut movie as a director, ‘Being Mrs Elliott’, has made an emphatic debut in Paris, France where it opened a major festival, Nollywood Week in Paris.
‘Being Mrs Elliot’ starring celebrated comedian, AY; Ghana’s Majid Michel; Nollywood starlet, Uru Eke; Lepacious Bose; Chika Chukwu; Imeh Bishop Umoh; Seun Akindele; Sylvia Oluchi and Omoni Oboli’s three children, opened to a thunderous applause at the festival in Paris.
Speaking on the development, Omoni said she was very happy when informed that ‘Being Mrs Elliot’ would open the festival in Paris.
Meanwhile, the new movie has scooped 11 nominations at the Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards, NAFCA, in California, USA. The organiser of the award made the list of the nomination public this week.
For Omoni Oboli, the NAFCA nomination of her movie is a big deal as she prepares to go to cinema soon. The movie got nominations In the Best Film, Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Costume, Best Actor in a Lead Role, Best Actress in a Lead Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Director categories making it the movie with the highest nominations.
“Getting 11 nominations at the NAFCA is a big boost to the movie considering the fact that it is my first movie, perhaps my New York Film Academy education is paying off. It goes to show that people are aware of what we do and appreciate us,” she said.
‘Being Mrs Elliott’, expected to open soon in Nigerian cinemas, is a story of a successfully married woman torn between two worlds after a life changing incident.
She later finds that the best life has to offer aren’t things but moments. Will she reach for the moments of the past or the crude present offered in an unfamiliar environment? This is one question ‘Being Mrs Elliott’ provides an answer to.
