Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, narrowly escaped death on Monday when his convoy was attacked by suspected thugs in Kebbi State.

The assault, which occurred in Birnin Kebbi, left at least 10 vehicles vandalized and several people injured.

Narrating the incident, Malami said:

“I was in Birnin Kebbi solely to pay condolences to prominent individuals who had passed away during my absence and not for political campaigning.”

 “It’s a painful act clearly linked to politics. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy. The truth is, when it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender.”

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State denied any involvement. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Isa Assalafy, condemned the violence, stressing that the APC remains committed to peace.

Assalafy said: “Kebbi is a peaceful state. No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state to be disrupted.”
