Senator Gershom Bassey, representing Cross River State Southern Senatorial District in the National Assembly was beaten to a pulp and his head broken by thugs on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018.
The politician was attacked on his way out of Transcorp Hotel, Calabar, where delegates and constituents were gathered awaiting further instructions on the elections process.
The lawmaker was said to have gone to Transcorps Hotel, Calabar where members of the electoral panel are camped to meet Ekpo Okon to resolve the stalemate over the primary election for the senate in the district where he was attacked.
The senator revealed that; “My car was driven by Ekpo to the police station and left there and when I went to meet him in the hotel to discuss on how the election can take place, I was attacked and wounded. I am now in hospital.”
