Senator Bassey Albert Akpan representing Akwa Ibom Central Senatorial District has been arrested by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesperson revealed that the politician was arrested after evading arrest for several months.

The senator is being accused of allegedly siphoning N1.2 billion, when he served as Commissioner of Finance in Akwa Ibom State under the Godswill Akpabio administration.

EFCC sources squealed to us that the senator is being detained over his role in the controversial receipt of several vehicles valued at over N1.1 billion from an oil mogul, Jide Omokore.
