Omawumi Evelyn Urhobo Reveals Best Kept Secrets

Dr Evelyn Omawumi Urhobo, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Smart Development Foundation (MSDF) has revealed her best kept secrets.

“When I went to Hussey College, Warri in 1965, Mrs. Evelyn Rewane-Fabyan was the Girls Senior Prefect, while I was one tiny stubborn and rude girls from Okere, Warri. I don’t know how it came about but she took special interest in me and decided to straighten me out. Several times she takes me into her room and gives me a hell of a flogging after being rude to some senior girls insisting that I must learn proper behaviour.”

“Guess what? I became a good kid and decided to name myself Evelyn. By this time it was discovered that I was a good athlete and my father and mentor Late Chief O. N Rewane adopted me and gave me all the encouragement to excel in athletic. I was always determine not to let him down and really went on to excel. By 1968 I became the Nigerian fastest girl in the 100 and 200 yards then and Nigerian best junior Girls Athlete. By 1970 I represented Nigeria at the Commonwealth games in Edinburgh and shook hand with the Queen of England.”

“I was the school daughter of Sisi Roro Rewane-Dafinone, Atema Rewane-Akindele, Late Sumele Rewane, and Mrs Eriwu Rewane Molajo were my bestos then. Mrs. O. N Rewane always warned Bismarck Rewane not to have any amorous intention towards me because I was his sister. We never knew how. It was later I got to know that I was family because of Atsiangbe being of the Numa stock.”

“I was made Sport Prefect when I was in form 4 and went on to be the Girls Senior Prefect in 1971. Chief O. N Rewane the Ologbosere of Warri Kingdom of blessed memories saw in me what I never knew and help to chart my path in life to reach my absolute potential for which I am eternally grateful. This love the Rewanes have continued to envelope me with till today.”

“I can’t but reminisce on the great opportunity that I had attending Hussey College and being a protégé of the great Rector himself. My aunty Chief Elemi Rewane took me under her wings too. I was privileged and very grateful. This post is not about me but how do I celebrate my Sisi Evelyn without talking about her direct impact on my life. I am answering her name. Sisi Evelyn I want to once again wish you a happy birthday. I thank God for your life and I pray that God continue to bless you with good health, strengthen you and grant you all your heart desired.”
