Fresh facts emerging from the BPE and the government appointed liquidator of the defunct NITEL/MTEL have revealed that the controversial Plot 697 House 134 on Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja is actually one of the core assets of NITEL/MTEL handed over to the NATCOM Consortium that acquired NITEL/MTEL from the Federal Government of Nigeria. 

Insiders at BPE told us that the government appointed Liquidator of NITEL/MTEL actually operated from the property for months before it was handed over to NATCOM following a successful acquisition by the company.

Besides, in an official statement, Natcom Development & Investment Limited also stated their case.

“NATCOM Development & Investment completed the acquisition of the assets of NITEL/MTEL in April 2015 through a guided liquidation process carried out by the BPE for which an Asset Sale and Purchase Agreement was executed between Otunba Olutola Senbore (the Liquidator), Nigerian Telecommunications PLC (NITEL), Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTEL), The Bureau of Public Enterprise and Natcom Development & Investment Limited for which Natcom has since the acquisition swung into reviving the company and business.”

“However, in recent times, NATCOM has been faced with a great deal of harassment and embarrassment over the properties of the defunct MTEL Ltd. located in Abuja. Of particular concern is the property situate at Plot 697 House 134, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2 Abuja, FCT which was handed over to Natcom as one of the core assets of MTEL Nigeria Ltd, which in fact was Mtel’s company headquarters up until final handover to our Client. The said property was physically handed over to Natcom on the 1st of June, 2015 on which Natcom security guards took over the security of the premises and remedial works commenced.”

“On the 26th of March, 2016, some men representing one Nelly Udele forcefully stormed the premises of the above property to chase out Natcom security personnel. They claimed the property belonged to Nelly Udele who alleged that she acquired the property through the Ad-Hoc Committee On Sale of Federal Government Houses sometime in February this year, almost one year after the property was handed over to Natcom.”

“Natcom is quite surprised by this development, which has necessitated this rejoinder. The above property was one of the listed properties handed over to Natcom and Natcom has since commenced renovation of the property in preparation for its roll out. Natcom is unable to understand how a property that was handed over to our client last year could have been sold to Ms Udele in February this year.”
