Jumoke Akinjide In Big Trouble

Ms. Jumoke Akinjide, former Federal Capital Territory and Minister of State for Defence is in big trouble. She was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged conspiracy and laundering of N650 million.

EFCC revealed that she collected N650million from former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke in March 2015, as part of the $115million allegedly illegally disbursed by the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration to prosecute the 2015 general elections.

EFCC sources said that she was granted bail by the agency last August 10, 2016 after a federal lawmaker, Aliyu Ahman Pategi stood as her surety on a N650 million bail bond and he promised to produce Akinjide whenever she was needed.

We gathered that a 24-count charge of money laundering and conspiracy has been brought against her before Justice Ayo Emmanuel of the Federal High Court, Ibadan.

However, she failed to turn up in court after more than three proceedings, despite the service of the charge on her and Pategi failed to produce her. Pategi was then remanded in EFCC custody. Be that as it may, she has eventually reported herself to the EFCC’s office and the lawmaker who has been in detention since Friday, 16th June, 2017 has been freed. Hon. Pategi is the House of Representatives member representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, Kwara State.
