Joshua Okpo Bags Maritime Man of the Year Award

joshua-okpoThe Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Joshua Okpo, recently bag the South South International magazine’s maritime man of the year award. Okpo who was being honored with the maritime man of the year award for the third time running, according to Ovie Edomi, Editor-In-Chief, South South International Magazine got nominated for the award because of the way and manner he has brought his managerial skill to bear in transforming the nation’s 35 years old premier maritime academy into a world class maritime academy in terms of infrastructure, human capital development and facility upgrade. A development that has made more Nigerian who use to travel abroad before to look inward and begin to seek admission in the nation’s maritime academy.

Besides, Edomi noted that Okpo deserves the award for the third time because he has not only brought peace to the academy he equally ensure that peace of the graveyard that was in existence when he took over as rector has been tackled and the surrounding host communities which were at war with each other have embraced peace.

Edomi noted that the rector has also done so much to attract the attention of the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation. IMO and the President of World Maritime University who at different times expressed their desire to partner with the academy for the overall interest of the nation.

Also the National Association of South South Students honored Joshua Okpo with the best Rector award. The award according to the association President Comrade Martins Abebe was in recognition of Okpo inspiring leadership and administrative prowess in bringing growth to the maritime academy of Nigeria in line with President Goodluck Jonathan transformation agenda.

Responding at the maritime man of the year award Okpo thanked the editorial board of the South South International Magazine for the award and promised to do more to ensure that the maritime academy of Nigeria remain in the world map and its cadets highly trained in order to earn a place in the international sea trade.

He however dedicated the National Association of South South Students award to the duo of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister of Transport who found him worthy for the rectorship position.
