Gov. Suswam Cries Out: “I Didn’t Forge My Certificates”

SuswamFor the umpteenth time, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Torwua Suswam, Ph.D, CON Executive Governor of Benue State has seen the need to place before the public, details of his academic, credentials, especially SC/GCE ‘O’ Level, the Nigerian Law School and the Call to Bar certificates.

This has become even more necessary as a result of recent sponsored reports in the Kaduna based magazine, “Power Steering”, in its June 2014 edition, which mischievously but unsuccessfully tried to misinform the public with unfounded and baseless allegations against the person and office of Governor Suswam, with allegations of certificate forgery.

“The Power Steering magazine” has been consistent since 2010 in the publication of this malicious falsehood at the behest of Governor Suswam’s political opponents with the intent to tarnish his reputation and lower his esteem and integrity before the good people of Benue State and Nigerians at large.

Governor Suswam’s political opponents have resorted once again to this most senseless allegation having failed flat on their boastful attempts to prematurely end his tenure through the judicial process, with the dismissal last month of the election petition suit against him by the Supreme Court.

Governor Suswam wishes to state most unequivocally that he is not a gorger of certificates and will never be involved in such despicable act as alleged by the magazine under reference and its sponsors.

On the contrary, Governor Suswam wishes the good people of Benue State to note once more that he genuinely sat for and obtained his WAEC School Certificate ‘O’ Level at Government College, Makurdi in 1982 with six (6) credits after having sat for the External GCE in November/December 1981 and obtained four (4) credits.

He proceeded to the School of Basic Studies (SBS), Makurdi and made 10 points at the IJMB on the basis of which he was admitted at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to read Law. He successfully graduated with LL.B, University of Lagos in 1989 and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School where he successfully completed his course in 1991 and was subsequently called to Bar on the 6th day of June, 1991.

According to Dr. Cletus Akwaya, Senior Adviser on Media to the Governor, he further attended the University of Abuja where he bagged the Master of Public Administration (MPA and the University of Jos, where he obtained his LL.M and Ph.D in Law.

His academic records in these institutions are available for anybody who is in doubt to verify – a simple activity the magazine and its sponsors failed or refused to carry out.

It is unfortunate that the “Power Steering Magazine” which is being prosecuted in the court of Law over a similar publication in 2010 on charges of criminal defamation of character and injurious falsehood will still make itself available to be used for such a hatchet job by some desperate politicians.

The mischievous publication notwithstanding, Governor Suswam is not deterred in any way from providing purposeful leadership by delivering the dividends to the people of Benue State as he has done in the last seven years of his stewardship with high acclaim.

His political opponents who are scared stiff by the popular call on him to contest forthcoming Senatorial election in Benue North-East Senatorial District should be informed that no amount of blackmail, name-calling and sponsored falsehood in the media will reverse the firm resolve of the people to express their wish through the ballot come 2015 as far as the senatorial seat is concerned.

Governor Suswam wishes to appeal to the media to exploit the Freedom of Information Act and also avail themselves of his media friendly posture to crosscheck any information about his person and his administration before rushing to press.
