Between Late Dipo Dina And Governor Amosun

Amosun & Dipo DinaThose who are conversant with Ogun State politics uphold strongly that for businessman cum governorship hopeful, Dipo Dina’s death by unidentified gunmen in 2010, Senator Ibikunle Amosun would not have been governor. This might not be far-fetched, considering that prior to the last election, Amosun was a member of the All Nigerian People’s Party, (ANPP), on whose platform he contested for the governorship seat in 2007 but was defeated by Governor Gbenga Daniel.

At that election, Dina, otherwise known as D-Direct by his loyalists, was the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, (ACN). Before politics came calling, Dina and Amosun were successful chartered accountants.

Eerily interesting is that January 25 is Amosun’s birthday. At the time of his death, all fingers were pointed in the direction of former Governor Daniel because Dina had been a thorn in the flesh of his government, exposing with facts and documents, their pillaging of the state’s treasury.

Many years later, it seems a startling and rattling epiphany is descending on Ogun State natives as many are now discussing in hushed tones the coincidence of Dina’s death and Amosun’s birthday. Was Dina deliberately taken out of the picture for Amosun’s entry into the ACN? Or was his death a befitting birthday gift for the governor. The conjectures and jigsaw puzzle are as frightening as they seem to be true.
