Honourable Sunday Adeyemi Adepoju is the member representing Ibarapa East/Iddo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly. He got another four years mandate during the last election under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC). In this interview with Dapo Salami, he spoke about his achievements during his first tenure in office and also talked about his plans for the people of his Constituency in the next four years. He also dwelled extensively on the need for the good people of Oyo State to support APC led administration both at the Federal and State level.
How would you describe your victory during the last election that earns you a second term opportunity at the National Assembly?
Firstly, I just have to thank God and the good people of Iddo and Ibarapa East Federal Constituency for believing in me and my party. I am so grateful to my people for their love and encouragement during my first term in office. I appreciate them because they know that I have done well at the National Assembly. I have been able to give them good representation at the National Assembly. My achievements in the last four years are speaking for me. The people of my Constituency know that I have all what it takes to represent them at the national Assembly. I am grateful to them for the great opportunity given to me and I promise never to betray the trust they had in me. I will forever be grateful to them and I also thank all our party members for their support in ensuring my victory at the polls.
Now that you have won the election, what should be the expectations of the people of Iddo/Ibarapa Federal Constituency in the next four years?
My people should expect more dividend of democracy; they should expect good and quality representation at the National Assembly. I have promise them that I will facilitate more Federal project to my Constituency. I have a lot of plans for my people and I believe this is just the beginning of a new dawn. My achievements during my first term in office shows that I am not a bench warmer in the National Assembly and that is why I have sponsored a lot of bills that is of great benefit to the people of my Constituency and South West in general. I have a track record during my first term in office and that is the main reason why the people of my Constituency insisted that I should go for second term in office. I provided solar light for my people both in Iddo, Eruwa and Lanlante. Also I facilitated the repair of Ibadan-Abeokuta Express road; also, the general hospital road in Eruwa was repaired through my intervention. I donated furniture worth millions of naira to Obaseku High School in Eruwa and I can tell you that you can only find such furniture in two schools in Oyo State which is Loyola College and Obaseku. Also I have contributed to the growth of Ibarapa Polytechnic by giving the students bursary. I have a lot of elderly people that are on my pay roll every month. Also I gave millions of Naira to market women to boost their business. I will definitely give myself a pass mark because I know I have performed beyond the expectations of the people of my Constituency.
How will you describe your experience at the National Assembly?
My experience at the National Assembly has been very interesting and challenging. I don’t practice politics of bitterness and that is the reason why I didn’t change my mobile number since the time I was elected as an Honourable member since 2011. Almost everybody in my Constituency knows my mobile number so that gives them free access to me. You should know that I am a graduate from Bola Tinubu post graduate school of politics. I found it easy to interact and relate with other honourable members at the National Assembly and that is the main reason why they do support me anytime I want to present any bill. So, my experience has been a fantastic one.
Some residents of Iddo Local Government are complaining that most of the project you have done are situated in Ibarapa East Local Government. How true is it?
Let me tell you that I represent Iddo/Ibarapa Federal Constituency not Ibarapa East alone. The reason why some people are saying that is because I am from Eruwa which is in Ibarapa East Local Government. I can tell you categorically that I have done much for the people of Iddo than that of Eruwa and Lanlante. Even my people in Eruwa are also complaining that most of my projects are situated in Iddo Local Government. So for anybody to say that I have not done enough for the people of Iddo Local Government shows that the person has a biased mind towards me. If the people of Iddo Local Government are complaining about my performance I am sure they will not had voted me the second time. Anybody that is now saying such a statement is a political challant. During the flood and fire disaster that happened in Iddo Local Government some years ago, I know what I did in Iddo. I repaired the police station in iddo. I have been active to the ordeals of my people. I lost just four polling units in Iddo out of over 150 polling units that we have in Iddo. That shows that the people of Iddo Local Government are solidly behind me. The people of Iddo have been my pillar of support. I can even assure them that they will enjoy more dividends of democracy during my second term in office.
How prepared is your party for the next Governorship and State House of Assembly that will take place on Saturday?
APC is a party that is ever prepared. Let me tell you that APC is now the pride of people in Oyo State and Nigeria. By the special grace of God you will see what will happen on Saturday. Senator Abiola Ajimobi will defeat all the Governorship Candidates from other political parties. APC has captured Oyo State completely and I can now say that no party can defeat APC in Oyo State.
